For thousands and thousands of years, men have hunted whales for food and for
their oil, so whales are in danger of extinction. Since 1950 the number of blue whales has
fallen from 40 000 to only 6 000. In order to protect them, the International Whaling
commission was created in Washington. This commission has banned whales hunting in
1986; so most countries stopped hunting whales, but all countries must stop or soon
whales will disappear.
